Justin Hammer tried to prove his worth to the Red Skull by building a machine that could take on the Avengers - the Super-Adaptoid. Although Hammer was out of the Cabal, M.O.D.O.K. was able to recover Hammer's technology for his own purposes.

A squad of vampires attack the Avengers at the Avengers Tower, and are defeated, with the Avengers capturing their leader – who turns out to be a vampire Black Widow. Through the Black Widow, the Avengers are offered a deal from Dracula, King of the Vampires he will trade the Black Widow for Captain America. The Black Widow had traced the Red Skull to Transylvania, where she was captured and turned by Dracula. Captain America tells the Avengers that the only way to save her is to destroy the vampire who bit her. Iron Man starts a scientific analysis of the Black Widow, in hopes to find a cure for her condition.

On the way to Transylvania, Captain America loads silver-plated strike discs into his belt pouches while recounting that Dracula was an uneasy ally of the Allies in World War II, as the Allies helped him keep Transylvania free from the Nazi oppression. The Avengers land outside of Dracula’s castle, which is under a spell which makes it always night. They fight vampires and Dracula, and then split into three groups Thor and Hulk guard the entrance, Iron Man continues to try and find a cure, and the rest enter Castle Dracula to rescue the Black Widow.

Dracula captures Hawkeye and Falcon, and uses them to force captain America’s surrender. Dracula reveals that the Red Skull has told him that Captain America’s blood, with the Super-Soldier Formula, will make Dracula immune to sunlight. Before he can harm Captain America, other Avengers attack. The Hulk is bitten by Dracula. Hulk becomes a minion vampire under Dracula’s control, and Dracula becomes Hulk-like. Ordering the Hulk to destroy the Avengers, Dracula grabs Captain America once more, but the gamma-irradiated blood from the Hulk incapacitates him.

Gamma-irradiated blood has an effect on Dracula similar to sunlight. Iron Man postulates that if they make the Hulk angry enough, his own gamma-blood will rid him of the vampiric infestation. The Avengers proceed to attack the vampire Hulk, burning out the vampire blood elements. Dracula, weakened, escapes to heal from the damage the gamma-irradiated blood did to him. Castle Dracula is destroyed, and the Avengers fly off in the Aven-Jet Prime.


Iron Man uses gamma-irradiated blood to help cure the Black Widow, who remembers nothing after being bitten by Dracula.

Ulik a member of the Rock Trolls from the caverns of the Realm Below in the extra-dimensional realm of Asgard. He comes to Earth using the Asgardian weapon called Codgel. Ulik travels to Midgard and using the powerful weapon he battles Thor, blasting him with the Asgardian weapon. The weapon allows him an advantage battle, Iron Man arrives to help, battling the troll together, Thor knocks the weapon into the air. Thor realizes with the arrival of this weapon he is destined to perish. Thor dragged Ulik through the air knocking his head against buildings, while Iron Man struggled to find the weapon due it's mystical origin. A squad Hydra agents find the weapon, informing the Iron Skull of their findings. But they were attacked by Doom Dogs and Doctor Doom retrieves the weapon.

At Avengers Tower, Captain America joins the others to interrogate Ulik, who reveals he is there to take down the Son of Odin. Using the computer they search for the weapon, and track it to the Latverian Embassy. Thor destroyed the computer in anger with his hammer. At the Embassy Doctor Doom scanned the weapon, when he was contacted by the Iron Skull. He was annoyed by the theft and again Doom refuses the invitation to join the Cabal, and blasts the screen. In the Aven-Jet Prime the team headed to the Embassy, planning out the assault. They enter the grounds while Hawkeye goes in beneath the Embassy, but is attacked by Doombots, but he was able to take them out, until he was blasted by Doom. The Avengers were attacked by Doombots and Doom Dogs, and they take them out until Doctor Doom bursts through the ground stating ' 'You dare trespass on Latverian soil!'

Using the weapon he battles the Avengers, holding his own against Thor and the team, having now mastered the weapon. He split the ground releasing the Midgard Serpent that bursts through the ground. It attacked the city, and when Iron Man scans it which shows it's growing, Thor reveals it will grow in size until it can consumes the planet. The creature is so powerful it sends the Hulk flying through the air. Doom takes control of the creature using the hammer. Falcon goes to find the Hulk, while Thor goes after the creature alone. Falcon finds the Hulk who is knocked out on the ground and struggled to wake him or moving. He then uses his Holo wings to flip him to the river.


The creature is to powerful, and Thor decides to sacrifice himself , but they were blasted by Doom. Doom was then crushed by the serpent who then tried eat Iron man but he was able to escape. Thor confronts the creature, blasting him with his hammer, and knocked him to the ground.

The rookie Falcon is late to his first official Avengers meeting. Iron Man reassures him that the meeting is never on time. He brings the team some cookies made by his mother which the Avengers enjoy especially the Hulk. A fight breaks out for the last few cookies. A Space Phantom swaps bodies with Hawkeye and becomes a copy of him in order to get the Space Phantoms to invade Earth. Falcon goes on the tour of the compound first to his room which was filled with Tony's junk. Then viewing Thor's room that is larger on the inside thanks to Asgardian "inter-dimensional decorating", where he is fighting a Bilgesnipe. Then to Hawkeye's room which is covered in junk. In a strange room he finds shelves filled with crystal animals which is revealed to be owned by the Hulk! Then a Space Phantom swaps bodies with Thor to help secure a portal to guarantee the Space Phantom invasion of Earth. When Iron Man finds Hawkeye and Thor near the portal device, his armor identifies that they have been possessed by Space Phantoms. During Falcon's training with Captain America, a Space Phantom possesses Captain America and attacks Falcon. Iron Man catches up to Falcon and saves him from a Space Phantom-possessed Black Widow. While shutting down Avengers Tower, Iron Man and Falcon are attacked by a Space Phantom-possessed Hulk.

Iron Man finds that Hulk and the others were misplaced as the Space Phantom-possessed Hulk calls forth a Space Phantom to possess Iron Man. While Falcon evades the Space Phantom-possessed Hulk, the other Avengers in Limbo are approached by Space Phantoms. The Space Phantom-possessed Thor and Captain America state that they have assimilated different dimensions. Back in Limbo, the Avengers discover that their hand-to-hand combat skills to fight the Space Phantoms in order to keep them from going through the other side. The Space Phantoms take down Falcon and remove his wing pack as the Space Phantom-Hulk punches through to Limbo in order to let the rest of the Space Phantoms through. Falcon activates his flight pack's Redwing Mode to trap the Space Phantom-Avengers in a wind vortex that sends them back to Limbo. Falcon tells the Avengers that the Space Phantom copies don't have the skills of the actual Avengers as they take advantage of this. After defeating their clones, the Avengers escape back to Earth and shuts down the portal so that the Space Phantoms can't get through. When they return to earth they find some more cookies and the argument starts over again, with the Falcon happy they are home.

MODOK and Red Skull steal Iron Man's armor, which forces the Avengers to put aside their differences and galvanize the team to stop the evil duo from destroying New York City. The Avengers get Stark to a new armor, but Red Skull attacks them at Avengers Mansion and is again defeated. Skull plans to take away everything the Avengers hold dear from their lives to their country by trying to have them hated by the people for failing to save the day. To even the playing field, The Red Skull brings together his team of power giants: The Cabal. The Avengers intercept a transmission, and remain together to battle the Skull and his new allies. To stay close, after the mansion blew up, they set up their base in Avengers Tower.

It's the afternoon in New York City. Inside Stark Tower, Tony Stark recently arose from an afternoon nap and is now sitting alone in a chamber with monitor perches all around him. Stark monitors his former Avengers comrades through multiple holographic computers as they each duke it out with different enemies in battles of their own. Stark monologues about his thirst for action; eagerly anticipating the moment when one of his former teammates will need backup.

Stark's moment is interrupted, when J.A.R.V.I.S. locates Red Skull and his HYDRA operation alive, but slowly dying since his Super Soldier injection in the days of World War II. Tony Stark suits up, and flies to the Red Skull's location to assist Captain America in bringing the terrorist to justice. Iron Man arrives too late, only to witness Captain America getting vaporized by the Red Skull's laser cannons. Vengeful by the loss of his friend, Iron Man attempted to put an end to Red Skull's threat once and for all, before being intervened by M.O.D.O.K., who teleported to their location. Weakened and defeated, Iron Man watched as Red Skull and M.O.D.O.K. escaped with Captain America's shield. Following their escape, Iron Man stood over the ashes of his lost comrade in despair.

In response to Captain America's "death", Iron Man sent several holo-spheres to the retired Avengers and the new recruit Falcon. Hawkeye, Thor, and the Hulk arrived at Avengers Mansion, informed by Iron Man of Captain America's untimely demise, and the activation of the Avengers Protocol.

Meanwhile at the HYDRA Headquarters, Red Skull observes Captain America's shield, notifying that he "outlived" his old enemy, before being alerted of the Avengers approaching the facility. The Avengers fight off against HYDRA's forces, with the help of Black Widow, and forced their way into the Red Skull's hideout to find Captain America alive. Coming to his aid, Iron Man quickly discovered Red Skull had swapped minds with Captain America, but Iron Man is soon overwhelmed by the super-villain. Captain America, in the Red Skull's body, rescues Iron Man, before soon being knocked down by Red Skull. Iron Man uses his unibeam against M.O.D.O.K. tele-kinetic ability to send an electromagnetic pulse, powering down all systems and weaponry in the facility, including his armor. This served as a distraction for Falcon to enter the building with ease, and take down the Red Skull, before returning him and Captain America to their formal bodies. Before the Avengers could celebrate their victory, Red Skull awakens M.O.D.O.K., who forcefully steals Iron Man's armor and arc reactor, reattaching it to Red Skull. The two villains teleport away victorious, as the Avengers find Tony Stark passing out from his wounds.
